Pupbox vs. Barkbox

Kinley has been the lucky receiver of both the Pupbox and the Barkbox (spoiled, I know) They are a monthly subscription box filled with toys, treats and other goodies.  Kinley has now received three months worth of each box, and we wanted to give you the low down!

First Pupbox!!

  • Takes into consideration your puppies age, breed and size when deciding what to include in your box
  • Contains multiple toys that are targeted towards your puppy.
    • Kongs, balls, ropes, and stimulation toys have all been in Kinley’s box!
  • Contains yummy treats, bully sticks (Kinley’s favourite), bones, chews and other things that help with your pups teeth, as well as help stimulate them
  • They send you training tools and other doggy tools
    • We have received a treat pooch, and a portable water bottle for quick drinks during walks!
  • Each month you receive a newsletter with tips and training tools specific to the age of your pup
  • Allow you to re-order your puppies favourite things from their previous box and
add it to their next month box! (Kinley is obsessed with their curly bully sticks, so they have become a stable in her box)
Stealing her bully stick that we have re-ordered!!

  • Having to pay extra for international shipping as Kinley and I are Canadian girls

First Barkbox!!

  • The boxes all have themes!
    • we have had a university theme, a painters theme, and a arrggh pirate theme!
  • Unique and interesting toys — that all have a multiple usage such as tug, chewing, and squeakers!
  • Yummy treats, that are different and also part of the monthly theme
  • They always have some way for you to interact with the company, by giving you a question, or riddles, or a task to post on social media!
  • Pretty packaging!! (Kinley doesn’t care much about that though.. haha)

  • Not directly correlated with the age of your puppy, and what stages they are going through
Enjoying my beer from my University Themed Barkbox!

Kinley and I LOVE both of our monthly prescription and would encourage you and your puppy to look into both of them! They are awesome monthly rewards for your puppy, and I haven’t had to buy Kinley treats or toys since she has arrived!! Let us know if you have had either or both, and what ones your favourite is!!

Growing like a bad weed

Kinley has been with us for almost six weeks now. Which seems crazy to me. She has grown so much in the time that we have had her. Its hard to believe when looking back on photographs that she was really that small. Kinley is now almost 14 weeks, she is roughly 28-30lbs and I swear grows more and more everyday.

9 Weeks

Every time I open up her crate in the morning I feel like she gained 5 lbs overnight.I tell her to stop growing, but like usually she doesn’t listen very well.

When Kinley first came to us she was so tiny. I was able to carry her around with on hand, and she more than fit into my lap. We never weighed her officially when she came home but she was the “runt” of her litter. Looking at her you wouldn’t know it. She has massive paws, and was thick throughout.

10 Weeks

At her first veterinarians appointment she weighed in at almost 21lbs, at 10 weeks! Our little runt was growing so much, and was now over-average for her gender and weight. I looked at Chris and said “we are going to have a 90lbs baby on our hands soon”.

12 Weeks

At 12 weeks she weighed in at 25lbs, and is starting to grow out of that young puppy look. She is getting smarter and smarter by the day, and more and more mischievous!     Like I said she is currently almost 14 weeks. She is getting taller everyday, and now officially can not get under the coffee table without banging her head!

Our little baby is becoming a big baby really quick!

10 Things: The First Month

We have had Kinley now for 1 month! Which seems crazy, time is going by so fast! However, some days seem to be the longest I have ever had. Funny how that works! We have learned plenty since first bringing Kinley home four weeks ago!

Here is a list of the top 10 things we have learned in the first month:

  1. Socks are never, ever safe
    • Kinley is a notorious sock stealer. I swear I could have them all in drawers and tucked away but NOPE, she was able to find one. There is never a day in our household that I don’t pick up at least 4 different socks. She loves to bring things to her bed–usually socks, but she doesn’t discriminate either, she will grab shoes, water bottles, or anything else she can fit in her mouth
  2. When we think you have finally wore her out, GUESS AGAIN!
    • People are not lying when they say that puppies have a LOT of energy. Kinley is no exception. After having her outside for hours, or going on long walks you think she would be a sleep for days. No. 2 hours max, if we are lucky. She is active, which keeps us active; so I shouldn’t complain to much, right?
  3. Puppies & Kitties can be BFFs
    Snuggles with Tuck
    Playtime with Coop
    • Kinley and our other fur child, Cooper have become the best of friends. Cooper is 11 months old and loves to play, and he finally has found a playmate who has the same mindset. They constantly play outside, running around & play fighting. The play usually ends when Coop climbs a tree and Kinley realizes that she doesn’t have that superpower. She loves her other fur brother too, Tuck, he is her cuddle buddy.
  4. Why didn’t we just let her up on the couch?
    • Chris and I had both made the decision that we didnt want to allow Kinley up on our brand new couch (seriously we got it 2 weeks before she arrived). Turns out to be harder than it sounds. Puppy dog eyes are real people, and Kinley knows how to work them.
  5. Walk; 2 seconds of walking, 5 minutes of sitting pretty
    • Kinley and I have now “mastered” the art of walking. However the beginning consisted of walking for two seconds, and then her deciding it was a great place to sit & rest (the irony right? rests while on the walk, wild at home). Thefullsizeoutput_85e first couple of walks ended with slowly, pulling Kinley home, or with her in my arms. Thank god she has discovered how fun they can be, because at 25lbs it isn’t so easy to carry our girl home.
  6. Treats = Power
    • If you want a puppy to do something, put a treat in front of her. Kinley has learned how to “sit”, “come”, “down”, “give”, “paw”, and “go to her crate” all thanks to our friends, the treat. Her current favourites are “My mighty wolf: duck flavour”. She will honestly do anything for them, which makes it extremely helpful with training the little nugget.
  7. Kongs are a pups & moms best friend
    • Kinley’s kong has been a saving grace. It helps with the teething, and chewing but also gives mom some time to get stuff accomplished. Like this blog post right now.
  8. Mud is a golden girls best friend. Baths are a moms.
    • Mud is honestly Kinley’s favourite thing in this IMG_3454 orld. Our backyard is currently one giant mud hole due to the mild weather we have been having. She loves digging, and thinks that her dad & I would love for her to dig us to China. There isn’t a day that she doesn’t come in without a muddy face or dirty paws.
  9. Puppies and alligators aren’t so different
    • Kinley “choppers” Dodson. The nickname her aunt gave her should give it away. It’s like a constantly game of hungry, hungry hippos over here with her mouth trying to grab as much as she can. Kinley is currently teething & chopping down on your hand is her main priority.
  10. How did we survivor without her?
    • I may have complained a little, but honestly I wouldn’t want it any other way. She is silly, hyper, active and the best pal a girl could have. I don’t know what we did without her?!

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Chris (my boyfriend) and I brought home our little bundle of joy on January 28th, 2018. We had a little bit of a journey home but our little girl slept the entire way. We were both so excited to show her off to our friends and family, and start learning all about her & teaching her all sorts of new things!

Kinley has now become the focus of our home, she is sassy and spunky. Loves to play with us and her two kitty brothers, Cooper and Tucker. She is a big fan of bones, her kong filled with peanut butter and her giraffe tug toy from her auntie, Morgs. She keeps us on our toes everyday & we wouldn’t have it any other way. There isn’t a day that passs that she doesn’t make us smile or laugh!

It’s true what they say, all you need is Love and a Dog.
